Rare Weekend 4.3.08

Your weekend starts now.

Weekend Forecast: Nice.

Bacaro

Good times are a wine glass away at the brand new Bacaro Los Angeles. Unwind like they do in Venice with an ombra, or small glass of wine, and some cicheti, you know, snacks. Opens Saturday (4/5).

Bacaro, 2308 South Union Avenue (between South Hoover Street & West 23rd Street), (213) 453-1824, bacarolosangeles.com

The Oak Room

Business and pleasure mix well at The Oak Room, the swanky new restaurant from former mayor Richard Riordan. Polish off a Cabernet with The Mayor’s Burger, a politically correct mix of premium meat, bacon, tomatoes, caramelized onions, and blue cheese, or the Seafood Bouillabaisse. Opens tomorrow (4/4).

The Oak Room, 1035 Swarthmore Avenue, Pacific Palisades, (310) 454-3337

Malibu Wine Classic

It’s not often you can drink Chardonnay and benefit a solid cause, so consider the Fifth Annual Malibu Wine Classic this weekend. With more than sixty wineries in attendance and a portion of the proceeds going to Childhelp, you’ll feel good about feeling really good. The party starts at Noon tomorrow (4/5). For tickets, visit malibuwineclassic.com.

La Grande Orange Café

Hop on board to the intersection of old and new at La Grande Orange Café, located in the 1935 Santa Fe Railroad Depot. The American fare may be plain and simple (think burgers, Filet Mignon, and pan-fried chicken), but the design is anything but. Created by the crew behind Goa, this space features dark woods and slick light fixtures. If you ask us, this is one first-class ticket.

Il Grano

Seafood lovers know to avoid Mondays. But Tuesdays, well, they’re always fresh. Chef Salvatore Marino at Il Grano has made a holiday of the day - declaring it “Crudo Tuesday” - and prepared three unique tasting menus of the raw delicacies. Try the Blue Fin Tuna and Arugula Tower or the Japanese Wagyu Beef Tartar with Capers.
